The Palm Beach County Food Bank is hosting its annual “One Can, Two Can. Who Can? You Can!” back-to-school food drive, now through August 31. The drive kicked off on Tuesday with a drive-through, drop-off opportunity at the food bank’s Lake Worth Beach warehouse.
“We’re finding that the typical family of four spends on average $1,000 a month on groceries,” said Jamie Kendall, CEO of Palm Beach County Food Bank. “As home pantries struggle to stay full, it’s our duty to ensure that children are receiving the right nutrients to start the school year strong. It’s critical that they receive protein-rich foods that help growth, concentration, immunity and more for classroom performance.”
The Palm Beach County Food Bank specifies that the most wanted items include beans, fish, chicken, beef, peanut butter, vegetables, and fruit. It is requested that all items are shelf-stable and don’t contain glass packaging. Items may be dropped at the following locations:

“As families start their back-to-school shopping, this is a great time to educate kids that protein is brain food,” continued Kendall, “One-in-six of [children’s] peers may go to bed hungry at night. Making the shopping process a family event, and inviting the kids to come along when parents drop off the food during the food drive, is a great way to show children they can be part of a solution where every little bit helps.”
